Kindergarten Academy

The kindergarten guidelines developed by the Mississippi Department of  Education that define the type of instructional strategies teachers are to use in teaching kindergarten will be examined in a new light. Since the guidelines will be followed in the school accreditation audits across the state, teachers and administrators are offered a review. The two-day training is being conducted by Dr. Cathy Grace, Co-Director of the Graduate Center for the Study of Early Learning in partnership with the Mississippi Department of Education and Mrs. Cheryl Swoopes with the Tallahatchie River Foundation and certified CLASS trainer. The first day of training is focusing on evidence-based instructional strategies identified by Teachstone and compiled in the K-3 Classroom Assessment Scoring System. This observational tool is designed for administrators to use in creating needs based professional development for teachers and clearly describes the expectations of the guidelines. The second day, conducted by Dr. Grace will be interactive. Information and activities that are kindergarten guidelines specific and practical will be introduced.

All participants are asked to bring a copy of the kindergarten guidelines which are found at https://districtaccess.mde.k12.ms.us/curriculumandInstruction/Kindergarten%20Guidelines/2015-MS-Kindergarten-Guidelines.pdf
